

OVER 250 UNION MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES STEPPED UP TO HONOR HOMELESS VETERANS ON SATURDAY 19TH, FOR THE UNITED WAY HOMEWALK 2011.

Honorary Chair Kobe Bryant was presented
with a Los Angeles Lakers Local 1014 Fire helmet from President Dave Gillote.
“Unfortunately, over the years, homelessness has faded into the background…almost becoming a part of daily life, but we’re here to shake things up, to remind everybody what a serious issue it is and how it can be eradicated. So let’s continue to spread the message, to come together and get this problem out of here!”-Kobe Bryant


Over 10,000 walkers came together on this bright Saturday morning to send a clear message that they were there for 50,000 people homeless in Los Angeles.

While it was 85 in the LA sun, the holiday winter spirit brought joy to over 1000 children and their families in central Los Angeles.
Children 12 and under came to the first ever Labor Community Services Season of Giving Holiday Party. Santa brought over a thousand toys to children of all ages, while partners AEG laid on food, activities and music. 
With over 45 volunteers from Labor, United Way and AEG the event was deemed a great success with the children asking about next year!

Maria Elena Durazo (Los Angeles Federation of Labor AFL-CIO ) and Red Godfrey (Executive Director Labor Community Services AFL-CIO United Way) recognized Martha Saucedo of AEG for their continuing support of the AFL-CIO.

82,000lbs of food collected and distributed with the help of
184 hundred volunteers




The annual letter carriers food drive continues to be an indicator of food deficiency for hundreds of thousands of families across Los Angeles County. 15,000lbs alone was collected by community groups and partners.
42,225lbs was distributed to Unions and Locals and the rest was distributed to food pantries across the region.
